East Yorkshire Solar Farm DCO Application Accepted for Examination.

Boom Power’s Development Consent Order (DCO) application for East Yorkshire Solar Farm, submitted for consideration on the 21 November 2023, has been accepted for Examination on 19 December 2023 by the Planning Inspectorate.

East Yorkshire Solar Farm, located in the East Riding of Yorkshire, with the grid connection corridor extending into North Yorkshire will connect to the National Grid substation at Drax. With an export capacity of 400 megawatts, this proposed scheme would transmit renewable energy to the National Grid to deliver the electricity needs of approximately 100,000 homes.

Classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), East Yorkshire Solar Farm will significantly contribute towards the UK government’s net zero targets. After decades of reliance on imported fossil fuels, it is vital that they are replaced with home-grown, cleaner, cost-effective alternatives to protect the UK from volatile international energy markets whilst underpinning the clean energy transition. Harnessing energy from natural resources will reinforce this transition and increase our resilience to climate change, so the UK becomes a sustainable, net zero economy by 2050.

Mark Hogan, Founder of Boom Power expresses his delight stating, “our team have worked alongside industry leaders to bring this concept to life, and I am delighted that our application for East Yorkshire has been accepted for examination. We are grateful to everyone who has shared their views with us so far, thus helping to shape our application. Collaborating with the local community has and will continue to enable us to deliver a best-in-class proposal which promotes biodiversity net gain, climate adaptation and economic growth. We look forward to the next stage and progressing the application through examination to decision.”

Jan Krüger, Managing Director of Pelion Green Future, Boom Power’s joint venture shareholder and partner, comments: “This is great news to end what has been a brilliant year for Boom Power. The UK is among the most exciting countries in the world for green industries and has demonstrated that green and growth go hand in hand. East Yorkshire Solar Farm will hold significant weight to aid the stability of energy markets, strengthen economic growth and drive electricity costs down. We look forward to 2024 as we enter the next phase.”
